Remote backup

Post by jwhalen »

While I wait for my remote site to get an upgraded network connection I would like to test the offsite storage scenario. I was going to put a site to site vpn on my home network connection but it sounds like trouble behind a NAT device. Would it be possible to setup Veeam B&R in the remote home network I could then run it over an sslvpn? I realize this is far from ideal but it would give me nearby remote storage in addition to distant remote storage at the corporate site, once the network upgrade is in place.

The initial backup would be perfomed locally and then incremental backups would be done over the sslvpn. What kind of performace hit can I expect with the veeam server running over an internet connection as opposed to running in appliance mode on the VMWare server? Is this even possible?

Hi Jim,

If your Veeam B&R server is able to access a repository server located in the remote network, then your backup jobs would also work.

Yes, that's possible. Please search these forums for existing topics about backups over the WAN link for real-world numbers.

Thanks!
