Remote copy of backup configuration

Post by omfk »

Hi all,

I have configured a configuration backup for Veeam. Works fine. In order to have a copy also offsite I have configured a file copy job. Works fine as well.

There is, however, no option to set a retention or similar. According to veeam-backup-replication-f2/file-copy-j ... 60212.html such a functionality will not implemented.

What is best practise to have a remote copy of the configuration backup as well?

Hi Frank,

I think it's enough to copy the entire folder where all configuration backups are stored and schedule a cleanup of the destination folder, here is an example with PowerShell. Another option might be to use File Share backup job and configure the desired retention as described on this page of our help center.

Thanks!

Hi Petr,

thanks for the PowerShell code. I'll look into this.
But maybe my problem isn't a real one. I just realized that the orginal rentention of the configuration backup hasn't lapsed so far. We'll see what happens when the 31 days are over both on the initial backup location and on the file copy job target location.

Spending 1 VUL just for backing up some MB does not sound well for me.

Hey Frank,

Remember, for File Share Backup, if it's < 500 GiB* it's free.

I have my team recommend this for a lot of clients and it's a super convenient way to protect the Configuration Backup.

* (in v11, v10 had it lower, 250)
