Remove skipped virtual disk from backup repository

Post by lp@albersdruck.de »

Hello!

I do have a big (at least for me :D ) VM with several virtual disks. This VM was backed up with all virtual disks in a job.
Now I want to skip a virtual disk from being backed up; the first part is easy, configure the job to skip that disk.
But how do I reclaim the space on the backup repository that the now skipped virtual disk occupies?

Backup job mode: reverse incremental

Kind regards,

Hi Lars,

You need to do active full backup to create new VBK file, as NTFS does not allow shrinking files on-the-fly.

Thanks!

How large is this disk that you've excluded from backups? Data blocks that belong to this disk will be marked as deleted according to the configured retention policy and will be replaced by new data/changes of the VMs you backup.

Around 2,2 TB.
I'll try the retention period and see where this leads, thanks.
