Renaming and Restoring SQL DB (Possible feature request?)

Post by wa15 »

Veeam Community -

We are trying to see how we can restore SQL Databases from our backups into dev boxes using a different name. In other words, we are trying to take a SQL DB that was backed up from Veeam, restore it using a different name to a different (or same) SQL server. How is this possible? Currently running V7.

We currently don't have the virtual labs or surebackups configured, and am looking to get that configured though it looks rather confusing.

I know that there will be a SQL Explorer in v8 and am looking forward to that, but will what we are trying to do above be in v8 AND is it possible to do this in v7?

Thanks,

Hi Farshid,

You can use FLR wizard to pull database files from the backups and restore them to the required SQL Server.

Thanks!

Got it. We were able to export the MDF and logs from FLR and just attach it using the SQL Studio Management. Is that how you would have done it too?

Yes, this is the most straightforward way with v7.

Thank you sir. We switched over from Commvault Simpana and were used to being able to restore SQL databases directly from the Simpana interface. Is that something that will be added in future versions so we don't need to use SQL management studio?
