10Gbit NIC: ESXI or backup server

We upgraded our core switch to a dozen TEN GB ports. I'm thinking of putting a dual 10 GB card in this backup server. Would I see any benefit or would I also have to upgrade the ESXi hosts to 10 GB to see any gains? Thanks again! This saved me from having to create a support ticket.

Depends on the amount of data you have to protect and the size of your backup window if your repository server requires a 10 GIG Nic. You may check out the current bottleneck statistics in the jobs. It should tell you if a 10Gbit NIC in the repository server will bring any benefit for your backup job.
On the other hand upgrading the ESXI Hosts may bring benefits for your production workloads between VMs on different ESXI Hosts. I will move this discussion about "networking" to a new forum topic, if you want to continue it.

I was going to just start a new topic, but I don't really see a Networking category?

Here are the job statistics.

Load: Source 0% > Proxy 8% > Network 0% > Target 1%

So what I have is the main B&R VM server at a remote site connected by fiber using the above Repository (physical 2019 Windows server) at the main site. I select this Repository as the "Backup Proxy" in the job because it's in the same physical rack as the main ESXi hosts that hold the VM's needing backup. The B&R VM is at the remote site on a third ESXi host strictly for a DR scenario if we lose the main site. So my understanding is the Backup Proxy will do the heavy lifting even though the job is running on the remote site. I hope I explained it right.

Do the above stats suggest a faster nic would help any? Thanks

Correct. Data Traffic will flow from your two ESXI Hosts to the physical repository server which acts as a backup proxy.
Personally, I would upgrade the ESXI Hosts. That way all production server also may benefit from higher speed. If you have enough additional slots for your backup server, then also upgrade your backup server to 10 GBit. You will most likely will benefit from higher recovery throughput too.
