Replicas and RE-IP help

Post by Brad.Morris »

We are in the process of our DR testing and looking at using the RE-IP option.

The way I have setup the Replica jobs is that there are many VM's in each job. What I need to do now is go in to each job and enable RE-IP. We have allocated the IP addresses for the replicas already. What I am not sure on is how to configure the RE-IP option for all the VM's that are in the Replica job.

From a simple test, I have created a Replica job with 3 Vm's. at the Re-IP secion of the job, I have added 3 IP rules. One rule for each server as such. I have specified the source and destination IP for each server.

EG:
Server re-ip has source IP of 10.190.9.65 and destination IP of 10.175.41.64
Server re-ip2 has source IP of 10.190.9.64 and destination IP of 10.175.41.65
Server re-ip3 has source IP of 10.190.9.63 and destination IP of 10.175.41.66

So in the Re-IP section of the Job, I have 3 lines.
Source IP of 10.190.9.65 and destination IP of 10.175.41.64
Source IP of 10.190.9.64 and destination IP of 10.175.41.65
Source IP of 10.190.9.63 and destination IP of 10.175.41.66

I have run the Replica job and then failed over the 3 VM's. They seem to have taken the IP address's that I have assigned to them. But is that by chance or is B&R smart enough to know what the source IP of the server is and from the Re-IP list, assign the Target IP?

One Replica job I have something like 8 jobs with over 40 servers that I will need to set the IP addresses for and I want to make sure my logic is correct before proceeding.

Can someone clear this up for me.

Thanks,
Brad.

Brad, so basically you're asking whether it is expected that the configured re-IP rules work? ;) Yes, Veeam B&R knows the source IP and assigns target addresses correspondingly.

Hi Foggy. Yes, that is was I was asking. So for jobs that have many servers, it looks at the source IP in the list and checks each server then assigns the corresponding target IP.

Thanks for that.

Cheers,
Brad.
