Repository Change for SAP HANA Backup

Post by Jonyrock »

Hi all,

I want to change the backup repository for SAP HANA Backup from repo1 to repo2, as repo1 is getting full and cannot be extended any more. Hence, I created the new repo2.

So, here are my questions:

Before I change to the new repository, do I need to move my existing SAP Hana-backed data to the new repository?
If we do not move the old data, will the SAP cockpit tool be able to delete the out of retention data from repo1 as retention is maintained by SAP?

Hi Jony,

The SAP HANA server will loose a link to backups residing on the old repository right after the plug-in is configured to use a new one. Therefore, cockpit tool will be unable to delete backups on repo1. I'd suggest the following steps:
1. Remove the original backup from configuration (not from disk!)
2. Move backups to a new repository
3. Set a new repository using plug-in configuration wizard: SapBackintConfigTool --set-repository
4. Import backups and map the plug-in to it

Also, I'm wondering why you do not use SOBR? In this case it would be possible to just add a new extent.

Thanks!

Many thanks for your reply. Much appreciated:) By using the above steps, I was successfully able to move the data.

SOBR is not yet configured and I will try to configure it.
