Repository configuration recommendation (Windows 2019

Post by expert »

Hi,

we bought two new backup servers für Veeam B&R 10 Enterprise:
- HP ProLiant DL180 Gen10
- Intel Xeon Silver 4208
- 64GB RAM
- 2x 10Gbit NIC
- 80TB RAW capacity
- Windows 2019 Standard

backup plan:
- backup to disk (1st repository server)
- copy job over night (to 2nd repository server over 1Gbit fibre)
- backup-to-tape

question:
- what are the recommendations for the repository configuration with this constellation?
- hardware Raid (Raid 6, 10 etc.)
- file system (ReFS, NTFS etc.)
- any other special settings (raid controller, ...)

any help would be greatly appreciated,

best regards

RAID-6 gives you capacity with good read speeds but slow write speeds. RAID-10 gives very good write speeds and good read speeds.

RAID-10 gives you 50% capacity while RAID-6 gives you ~83% capacity; these figures are raw capacity with no file system installed on the array.

I'd suggest setting up one array based disk drive for the repository.

I'd recommend you stick to ReFS and the default repository settings. Thanks!
