I'm trying to determine the space I need to allocate for the catalog. I don't understand what the documentation is saying below.
1 GB per 500 VM for guest file system catalog folder (persistent data)
Is this saying if I'm using Veeam to backup 10 server VMs I only need 1 GB for the Catalog? I

Re: Requirements
Hello Joey,
Actually it depends, depends on the amount of indexed files. The catalog size can vary significantly, because one VM can have 100K files (normal VM with a few apps), and another - a few millions (file server). I would suggest backing up one "typical" VM out of 10, and then multiplying it by 10 and the retention policy.
Thank you!

Re: Requirements
Do you guys at Veeam have a sort of "sizing best practices" for the catalog?

Re: Requirements
As far as I know there are no best practices as catalog size depends on many variables. In our own labs we've seen that a VM with 100k files will consume 16 MB for each restore point.
P.S. also be aware that you can store index catalog on a compressed volume, should reduce the amount of space consumed.
