Reset CBT before backing up VM with v8

Post by mfc »

So is everyone resetting CBT on every VM they are backing up with v8 as the user guide and release notes suggests? This is a downright painful process, trying to see if it's absolutely necessary.

Thanks

Why so? You are not thinking of performing this operation manually on each VM, are you?

It's not necessary as long as you are ready to accept the risk that some of your VM backups may be unrecoverable, because they had their virtual disk extended at some point and have CBT providing Veeam invalid information since then.

So it is no problem to reset CBT and keep using v7 for a few more weeks and then update to v8 or is a reset directly before upgrading necessary?

Sure. Just remember not to extended virtual disk size after that, not to brake CBT again.
You will not even have to reset CBT again after upgrading to v8, if you keep your virtual disks intact.
