Hi,
When initiating a VM restore (image based) we get a choice from which repository and restore point we want to restore. But once we select the restore point from the preferred repository there is no indication anywhere in the restore menu which repository is used for the restore. Can we maybe get an additional column in the restore point selection window and some indication in the summery window clarifying the repository?
Furthermore, when doing any type of file based restore (application restore or browse restore) we don't get the repository selection at all, instead we get the restore point selection based on which repository we selected and if we select the VM from within a job and not a destination repository we get restore points only from presumably the default location. Is there a reason for this behavior discrepancy?

Re: Restore from specific repository
Hi steamingPeople,
1. Fair enough request; will discuss it with the relevant team; can I ask, the main idea is to have a final confirmation that it's from the correct repository to avoid situations like cross-WAN transfers and other such issues?
2. Can I ask, how are you usually starting a restore? From the ribbon or from Backups > * section of the Home tab in the Console? You can check the repository under the Backups > * section when starting the restore, and right-click will allow you to begin any type of restore from the selected point, knowing which repository you selected.

Re: Restore from specific repository
Hi David,
1. Correct, At the moment my primary concern is cross-wan transfers. But I can imagine there could be more situations where the source can matter, for example some repositories have faster network adapters or better disks.
2. I can confirm the behavior is the same whether I use the restore from the ribbon or I initiate the restore via backups > * section. In the ribbon if I choose any type of file restore there is no choice of source repository, just like if I select restore from backups > Job name > machine > restore guest files. I know we can choose the repository directly and initiate a restore, it's a discrepancy which can be confusing especially when missing point 1. See image
P.S. The only reason I was running into point 1 was because the discrepancy listed in point 2. I initially assumed that the restore points are based on the repository selected, but I later noticed that for image based restore no matter which repository we select we always get listed all restore points from all repositories which can be concerning since there is no way to visually confirm that indeed the correct repository is used.

Re: Restore from specific repository
Hi steamingPeople,
Point is clear and being discussed internally. Nothing I can share right now, but probably the summary tab could include this information as a "final check" to avoid situations that lead to accidental cross-wan restores.
Thanks for the feedback, will review
