Restore server side message rules

I have restored entire mailbox (exchange 2010) and noticed that my message rules are missing.
How to restore these rules?

Is it possible to restore,for example, all mailbox items older than 1 year without manually selecting items because structure is very complex - dozens of subfolders.

What about using filters in the advanced search functionality to filter old items and then do the bulk (CTRL+A) restore operation?

Probably not as there were no announcements for any improvements in the Exchange Explorer.
How often do you have to restore mailbox rules? If it's rather rarely then I would suggest to do a instant recovery and export the rules from there.

Yes, Update 3a brings support for new vSphere and Hyper-V platforms. There are no changes to the way how Exchange Explorer works.

This would restore the entire vm though right? this would restore my entire exchange environment back to that point. That wouldn't be good.
