Restore time goes to zero but job is incomplete

Post by jroot »

I just performed a restore of Windows 2003 guest (100GB, thin provisioned). The restore method was file based and I selected all files. They were restored to the same folder location on the host. Estimated time to completion was about 38 minutes. About two-thirds into the vmdk restore, the status bar went to the end and the time remaining went to 0. However, the dialog box stayed open and did not advance to a complete status with a close button. I opened the VM folder and saw that the vmdk file was at 66GB and growing. When it reached 100GB, the dialog box displayed a close button and was complete. The restored VM, which was also a SQL 2005 sever, operated as expected and to the point in time of the restore point.

Has anyone seen this behavior in the restore dialog?

This sounds like cosmetic issue with this restore type and thin provisioned disks... I will ask QC to confirm and log an issue in the bug tracking system, so that this could be fixed in the next release. Thank you!
