Restore to EC2 and UEFI

Post by selva »

I tried to restore a Linux VM from backup to EC2. After spending hours on upload, snapshot creation etc. it failed with "UEFI booting not supported on EC2" error. I thought B&R v10 has support for automatic UEFI to BIOS conversion. If not, wonder how come this error is not spotted at the outset before spending time uploading the backup..

Unless its supposed to work and I did something wrong..

Hello,
the user guide says
check the supported OS, EC2 instance and file system types in the AWS Documentation.
and Amazon says "not supported".

Agree that it would be nice to check that before uploading to EC2. I ran into the same issue long time ago when I tested it.

Best regards,
Hannes

Okay, so there is no automatic conversion to MBR done in case of EC2. Searching the docs again I see that "restore to Azure" does a GPT to MBR conversion on the fly (when possible).

I understand its not possible to add a check for all things that could go wrong, but upload being an expensive operation (in terms of time), worth adding some checks.

Thanks,
Selva

Hello,
yes, I also tested the conversation with Azure at that time... in my tests it never worked for Linux.

Take your feature request as noted.

Best regards,
Hannes
