Restore VM from just VBK and a single VIB file?

Post by Dave-Departed »

Hi All,

Bit of a crazy situation here today. We have severe flood warnings for our area tonight, and our complete offsite backup/DR solution is not yet finished or in place.

So, in the meantime, I want to copy last night's Veeam backups onto a USB disk and take them offsite. My question is, should the worst come to the worst, can we restore a VM from just the full VBK file and the latest VIB (in the case of some of our jobs, which are running forward incrementals - others are running reverse incrementals)? Because it will simply take too long to copy ALL of the data to the USB disk.

Thanks in advance.

No. Full backup chain up to the corresponding VBK is required to restore from the given VIB restore point.

[MERGED] restore folders from vib files whitout fullbackup

Post by Slem »

Hi Guy's

A newbie, has deleted the fullbackup file of our file server on the backup storage. He said to create more space :D
We created a new fullbackup but the vib files from the previous fullbackup does not match the new fullbackup
We need to restore some folders that can be found on one the vib files
How can we extract, read vib files

We have B&R version 9.5 (update 3a) and using backup agent to backup the file server (no VM)
all other servers are VM

Hi,

There is no way to do that - blocks of files are scattered across the backup files so the full chain is required.

Thanks
