Restoring from replica to Source

Post by mattmahy »

Hi,

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere... I did search the forums but couldn't find anything.

I have a server that is replicated to a DR site once a week. However the live box has become corrupted so I have failed back to a previous version on the replica and power the box up ok. Is it possible to copy this rolled-back replica over to the live site to replace the corrupt machine? Basically, I am trying to get the live site VM restored to its state 3 days ago.

Any help or pointers would be gratefully received.

Regards, Matt.

Hi Matt, you can setup a replication job to replicate your currently active VM back to the production site. Thanks!

Hi Gostev, thanks for the quick reply.

Won't that end up with the "_working" in the vmdk (and a machine named _replica) on the live site. I am looking to get back to as clean a state on the live site as possible.

I assume that copying the vmdk files manually would be a bad idea ?

Thanks, Matt.

Matt, not at all, actually you can perform storage VMotion to move your replicated VM back to a production site. In addition, you can move all the files manually. As for _working.vmdk file than it will be created only if you're going to replicate to ESXi host.

We are using ESXi as the source and target, and I am unabel to rename the .vmdk file. I will look into manually copying th files as we don't have storage vMotion option on the current licence.

Thanks for the help and suggestions.
