Restoring Image Files Without Configuration Files

Post by WORKS2019 »

I was given the following files on a USB drive to open but don't expect to open these until Monday and want to get ahead of the curve if possible.

I was given the following files:
job_name_server_name.vbk 478.6G
job_name_server_name.vib 31.8M
job_name_server_name.vim 33k

I noticed the VeeamConfigBackup folder and .bco file are missing.

Will I be able to open and view the content of these files after I plug the USB drive into a computer running Veeam?

These files are not for a VM rather a file level backup.

Hello,
before I move the topic to the correct forum, could you help me out about what product you are talking? the .vim file, is it a .vbm file?

In general, if you double click on Veeam backup files on a computer with Backup & Replication installed, you will be able to open that backup. A configuration is not needed. That's one of the main design ideas we have at Veeam: independent backups.

This also works with agent backups.

Best regards,
Hannes

We don't have anything with .vim extension, so, mostly likely, it's .vbm file.

Anyway, you don't need configuration backup (.bco) to restore backups - having machine with VB&R installed should be enough.

Thanks!
