Restoring to Network drive?
Hey,
So I have a Database I want to restore to a file.
The problem is, that all the Servers in Veeam don't have enough free space.
If I use a network location as a Path in restoring, it says that it is not authorized to access that folder.
Is there a way to restore to a network location (I use Synology NAS for that).

Hi, are you saying you're trying to restore file to alternative location, specify network path and see some kind of access denied error?

Re: Restoring to Network drive?
Not really, I want to copy VM files (Restore -> Hyper V -> VM files (VHD, VSV, BIN, XML)) to a network location.
When at the point "Restore Destination", there is a "Path to folder".
Here I can use a network path, but where do I set the credentials?
I can restore to a shared folder without authentication, but with auth it doesn't work

Ok, we were able to reproduce this, credentials indeed are not asked. Thanks for noting, we will plan to address this in one of the future updates.

Is there a workaround?

It was supposed to be fixed in U4, so please contact technical support for verification.

Re: Restoring to Network drive?
I currently have a test setup and see the same issue. However, I can not trust and therefore will not purchase a backup solution that limits me in such a critical point. In a desaster-situation I need all options to restore a VM, including to get the actual files to startup the VM on a totally different environment.
It's not looking good to see on this issue nothing has changed since 9 month.

Re: Restoring to Network drive?
Could you please share your case ID so we could check with support? Florian hasn't provided one so we cannot track it down for the results of the investigation. As mentioned above, the issue was supposed to be fixed in v9.5U4 - and unless we have an open case, we cannot investigate your situation, which can be different.

Re: Restoring to Network drive?
I'm running 9.5U4. Since this is a test-environment it's running on Community Edition. I will purchase a supported solution for my production environment. However, finding exactly issues like these, is the reason why I try out every scenario I want to be prepared for.

Re: Restoring to Network drive?
This is a valid approach. However, if you experience this issue, we encourage you to contact support for a closer look. You can get support with Community Edition as well.

Re: Restoring to Network drive?
yes, I have backups from several VMs on a ESXi Host and I can recover to this host. However, when I try to recover the VMs files to an external path, I can only choose local path's of the Server running Veeam. When I enter a path to any other network share I get this message of invalid credentials.

Re: Restoring to Network drive?
Hi,
Just a quick update. We've confirmed there is a bug that only affects vSphere environments (Hyper-V is not affected). In our case the error was: "Failed to get free space space on host", which is slightly different from yours. The issue is scheduled to be fixed in the upcoming versions.
@everyone, if you are experiencing the same issue or a similar one, feel free to raise a support case about the issue and post your case ID in this thread.
Thanks for bringing it to our attention!

Good to see this is a bug, not a feature. I will wait for an update an then test again

Re: Restoring to Network drive?
Just curious, your error was the same or not? If not, I would still suggest providing us more info by raising a support case because your difficulty may have a different nature.
In this case I will need the case ID to make sure all the necessary info reached the R&D team so we could start working on it asap.

Re: Restoring to Network drive?
"Failed to get free space on host ... Path "xxx" not found" is what I get as soon it is not a local path on the Veeam Machine
