Retention Help...
All,
I need some assistance with the best way to achieve the retention policy i'm looking for. We do/keep a 30 day daily rotation and a monthly full that we retain for 2 years. What is the best way to achieve the intended retention?
Currently, saving 7 restore points on direct attached 3par san space (for fast restores) and set up backup copies to a B6500 HP StoreOnce array that is replicating to a duplicate StoreOnce in DR Datacenter. The backup copy is set to use GFS with 4 weekly and 24 Month Ends. It appears the backup copies are incremental copies only there doesn't appear to be a way to do GFS on regular backups. Thanks.

Re: Retention Help...
Nick, you're doing everything right. There's no GFS retention in regular jobs and using backup copies is the way to go in your case.

Re: Retention Help...
Any plans for GFS on regular, or full backups on the copies?

Re: Retention Help...
Nick, an option to do Active Fulls in Backup Copy jobs, instead of them being forever-incremental, is planned for v9. Thanks!

Re: Retention Help...
I suppose the simplest way to do this is create a vtl on the 6500 and run a 'tape' job and set retention for 2 years and replicate the vtl.
