In your current setup, once the last increment on the green part is made, that full + the increments (green) meet your retention policy, so the older chain (red) can be removed by retention. This is described in the
animations KB link I provided earlier and that may help you visualize it better.
p.s. - for inlining images, you need a direct link to the actual image (with .png or .jpeg) -- so simply get the actual image link by right clicking the image after you upload it to a hosting service, and that link with the .png/.jpeg extension is what you will add to your post.
