Re: Reverse Incremental backup and DataDomain
If it is added as DD Boost repository, reverse incremental backup method is not supported.

Dear all
Hi
Why emc data domain can not support and work with reverse incremental backup ?
Is this a bug for datadomain or veeam can not support that ?

Re: Datadomain compatibality with reverse incremental backup
The main reason is because it will give poor performance due to high random I/O. You can find more information on this in the following KB.

Re: Datadomain compatibality with reverse incremental backup
The job process will most likely slow down over time therefor it isn't recommended to use RI on DataDomain.

Re: Datadomain compatibality with reverse incremental backup
would you say exactly what is your propose for EMC DataDomain as a repository ?
My Emc DataDomain Model is 6800
1- what kind of backup type is your suggest ?
forever forward incremental backup
forward incremental backup (synthetic or active )
reverse incremental backup ?
2 - Is your suggest use datadomain as a repository for backups that need keep for a long time on the data domain ?
3- Is your suggest use Instant Recovery for vms that reside on DataDomain ?

Re: Reverse Incremental backup and DataDomain
Data Domain doesn't support reverse incremental backup method. For recommended settings, please review the best practices guide.

Re: Reverse Incremental backup and DataDomain
Both the KB and user guide clearly state that reverse incremental is not supported - Veeam B&R will not allow you to proceed with job creation in case it is selected.
Recommended backup method for Data Domain is the default one - forward incremental with periodic synthetic full. Best practice is to have RAW primary storage for fast operational restores and use deduplication devices as secondary storage. Instant recovery performance from dedupe device might not be acceptable.Note: When the Backup Job is configured with a DDBoost repository, Veeam Backup & Replication will prevent Reversed Incremental from being selected by the user.
