RHEL Question Re Critical Security Patch 2022-03-13 for Veeam B&R

Post by huddie »

A critical security patch (https://www.veeam.com/kb4245) has been released for Veeam B&R and I'd like to install it ASAP. However, we believe installing this patch on our Veeam B&R Windows server and selecting the 'Upgrade remote components automatically' will fail to update the RHEL hardened repository Veeam software too. This hardened repository patch install must instead be done separately with the assistance of my Linux support contact. Does the repository software need to be updated ? If so, can we go ahead with installing the patch in Veeam B&R for Windows and hold off patching the repository software until we can get assistance with the RHEL side of things, knowing that the older repository software will continue to work in the meantime ? These questions aren't addressed in the Release Notes. Details below.

To clarify, the procedure for preparing the Linux repository for the Veeam software patch is detailed here https://nolabnoparty.com/en/veeam-v11-u ... epository/, but I don't want to do this part until I can get Linux assistance.

Veeam B&R version: 11a, aka 11.0.1.1261, aka P20211123
Veeam B&R server O/S: Windows Server 2019 v1809, fully patched
Backup repository server O/S: RHEL: v8.4, with no desktop / GUI, hardened and immutable.

Hello,
I installed the patch some days ago (from build 11.0.1.1261 P20211211) and I only had to upgrade the VBR server. None of the managed servers or Hardened Repository required any upgrade (I hear the same from a Veeam partner). Just in case something is different in your environment, I suggest to have the Linux support on "standby". if you have older versions than build 11.0.1.1261 P20211211, then the Linux support is required.

Best regards,
Hannes
