RLE decompression error

Post by m.novelli »

In last days i'm having frequently this error on most VM at a customer site:

Backing up file "[VMWARE2 DATASTORE] SERVER3/SERVER3-flat.vmdk" BackupFile failed Client error: RLE decompression error: [1043558] bytes decoded to [1048567] instead of [1048576]. Server error: Connection reset by peer Backup request cannot be processed. Source file path: [/vmfs/volumes/4a83f853-c87386fb-08a7-0024e879bc16/SERVER3/SERVER3-flat.vmdk].

Replicating file "[VMWARE2 DATASTORE] SERVER3/SERVER3-flat.vmdk" BackupFile failed Client error: RLE decompression error: [1032385] bytes decoded to [1048568] instead of [1048576]. Cannot backup file in the service console mode. File: [/vmfs/volumes/4a83f853-c87386fb-08a7-0024e879bc16/SERVER3/SERVER3-flat.vmdk]. VBK: [veeamfs:*:/SERVER3-flat.vmdk@/vmfs/volumes/4b1ce220-49f1fbf8-afef-0015c5876106/VeeamBackup/SERVER3(vm-26)/replica.vbk]. RBK: [veeamfs:6:/SERVER3-flat.vmdk@/vmfs/volumes/4b1ce220-49f1fbf8-afef-0015c5876106/VeeamBackup/SERVER3(vm-26)/2010-01-23T030050.vrb]. Server error: Connection reset by peer Backup request cannot be processed. Source file path: [/vmfs/volumes/4a83f853-c87386fb-08a7-0024e879bc16/SERVER3/SERVER3-flat.vmdk].

The customer is using Veeam 4.1 with ESX 3.5 U5

Hardware and software configuration is not changed in the last month or so.

Veeam retry 3 times and generally at the thirth tentative all VM are backed-up or replicated correctly

What I can look for?

Thanks for any help

Based on the error's summary, I can try and guess that the data packet got corrupted during the network transfer, especially since retries help. Really hard to say much from just session's summary, without seeing full job log...
