s3 compatible storage Archive tier

Post by Mk@Gs »

Hi All,

We are running a Zadara system with s3 compatible storage offering us a performance tier and a capacity tier.

Is it possible to accommodate a new feature to allow for Archive tier on out Zadara system?

We require this for GFS and cannot do this any other way without a archive tier.

Hello!

It is not clear what you're trying to achieve. Considered your data is already on Zadara (Capacity Tier), why do you need to move it to some other place within the same storage device?

Please note that GFS does not require the usage of Archive Tier, you can just start using GFS with your current setup.

Thanks!

Hi Gostev,

The backup jobs retention policy removes my restore points from the Capacity storage.

We do not have the available resources to accommodate GFS on a performance tier to hold restore points longer than 7 days.

Once the 7 day retention runs it deletes the restore points on both performance tier and the archive tier and i cannot set a separate retention policy for the SORB data.

Now id like to keep backups for certain periods with GFS but not able to store them on the performance tier.

Veeam support said only way to do GFS with Scaleout is having a archive tier as a option in the SOBR settings.

This would indicate that your backup job has its retention policy set to 7 days. This is an incorrect approach, you should instead configure backup jobs with the actual retention policy you need (including GFS).

To solve this issue, just set the Move policy window on your Capacity to 7 days. Then your Performance Tier will be freed up from everything older than 7 days automatically.

Thanks i will adjust to your recommendation and advise if the results are as you have stated above.

Correct me if i am wrong please?

So i intend to store weekly backups for 1 month, monthly backups for 12 months and yearly backup for 5 years.

Based on this retention and your recommendation those backups will be moved to the Capacity tier and store there away from my performance tier?
