SAN Transport - adding LUNs

Post by CraigV75 »

Hi Guys,

OK, so this is the first time I have to do this, and I need to make sure it's correct. The EMC forums are a mess, so excuse me for throwing in a question about that.

I need to add a 12TB VMFS volume to the backup server so that the VMs can be backed up using SAN Transport mode. There are 2 storage groups on the VNX. One for the backup server, the other for the ESXi hosts.

What I need clarification on is the following:

1. The backup server already has LUNs assigned to it with "automount /disabled" otherwise SAN Transport mode wouldn't be possible. Do I simply add the 12TB LUN into the backup server's storage group on the VNX5200?
2. Once added, do I then simply go to Device Manager --> Disk Management and refresh the view? Or is a reboot a better option?

Thanks,

Craig

Hi Craig, your understanding is correct. Reboot is not required, once you ensure you're seeing the disk in Device Manager, trigger a rescan operation for this server from Veeam B&R console (runs automatically once per 4 hours).
