Hi Sainath,
Could you give me more details, please?
What kind of SAP are you talking about?
Do you use Windows or Linux version of Oracle?
SQL database backups in Windows environment are conducted via usage of VSS mechanism. You can find more details about the subject here:
http://helpcenter.veeam.com/backup/80/v ... ssing.html
So, if you perform a hot-backup of your SQL database in Windows environment with application-aware processing option enabled, I can assure you that your database will be totally fine. You also can adjust logs backup, if you want.

Re: SAP + RMAN + Sql sanpshot backup using Veam
Hi PTide,
Thanks for your reply.
I am using EMC networker tool for backing up File system & database backup resides on VM (Windows & Suse Linux). EMC provide snapshot backup technology for file system backup and VSS technlolgy to take image base backup for sql database
but i am looking for snapshot backup for SAP & Oracle , sql database along with the file system snapshot backup. Hope so it will be possible using veeam Tool
We have both windows & linux version of oracle.
Could you please elaborate what kind of SAP question.
Thanks & Regards
Sainath

Re: SAP + RMAN + Sql sanpshot backup using Veam
I messed up SAP with something else, sorry about that.Could you please elaborate what kind of SAP question.
Unfortunately, Veeam v8 does not support EMC storage snapshots, though v9 will do, but only for VNX/VNXe storages.
Could you clarify something please:
You have an Oracle Database with SAP atop of it residing on a VM, correct?
If so, then...
1. Windows-based Oracle
Veeam app-aware processing supports transactionally consistent backups with Oracle VSS Writer installed. Make sure that your Oracle version supports VSS Writer installed. Otherwise, please use any of the methods below
2. Linux based Oracle
Three ways to do that from most to least intrusive. All methods requires ARCHIVE LOGS mode, NOARCHIVELOGS mode supports cold backups only.
2.1 Performing suspend/resume of database, requires usage of pre-freeze and post-thaw scripts.
2.2 Putting all tables in hot backup mode, requires usage of pre-freeze and post-thaw scripts.
2.3 Doing crash-consistent backup, does not require usage of pre-freeze/post-thaw scripts. The transaction consistency gained via usage of RMAN from the inside of VM running your Oracle DB. Please see details here.
More on SAP backups here
Thank you.

Hi Luca,
Thanks for the doc.
1. Could you please explain flow of oracle backup in Veeam. ( Note that we have Suse Linux OS VM and Oracle10g/11 , No Rac installation).
as per the guide , definitely we have to use script but is that script can do L0 , L1 and archive backup.
2. How we can do SAP database backup using Veeam ?

Starting v9 Veeam B&R will feature Oracle-aware backup, so you would not need to play with scripts, etc.
