Scan Backup with Linux Hardened Repository – Using Windows Mount Server Only?

Post by matsusan »

I would like to clarify the behavior of Scan Backup and mount server selection in Veeam Backup & Replication v13.
[Environment]
Repository: Linux Hardened Repository
Backup data: Linux-based VM backups
Mount servers:
- Windows: Windows-based VBR server
- Linux: Veeam Infrastructure Appliance
Scan Backup engine: Microsoft Defender

In v13, a Linux mount server must be configured for every repository, which I have done.
However, for Scan Backup, I would like to use only the Windows mount server,
because Microsoft Defender runs only on Windows.

[Question]
Even though the Linux mount server configuration is mandatory at the repository level,
is it possible that Scan Backup effectively uses only the Windows mount server and does not use the Linux mount server during execution?
Any clarification on the actual behavior would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Matsuyama

Hello, Matsuyama,

Windows mount servers can't mount Linux file systems, so your Linux VM backups can't be checked with Windows Defender.
Please use any Linux native antivirus instead - here is relevant User's Guide section on antivirus engine selection Antivirus Configuration File
