Secondary Destination

Post by HBKITInfo »

I just want to understand how this works, lets say I have a backup job from on-premise files to Azure repository, if I configure the secondary destination to an on-premise repository, this will copy the jobs from Azure to on-premise, or make another backup from the source again?

Secondary destinations are populated with Backup Copy jobs, which copy data between backup repositories.
If you want a backup from the source, then you need to create another primary backup job.

Great. So if for some reason I lost the primary backup, can I restore from the copy created by the secondary?

What would be the point of creating a copy of your backup if you couldn't restore from the copy? :)

You are right :) , but I thought there will be a procedure, and not direct restore.

Thanks for your help Gostev.

All Veeam backups are always self-sufficient and do not have any external dependencies. In every case, the recovery process starts from "importing" backup, which can be done into a clean Veeam install (typical for a DR scenario where everything was lost). After that, you will have the corresponding restore points available for "direct restores" as you put it.
