Server 2012 r2 Deduplcation

Post by jmerfeld »

We have a file server that has dedup turned on and has been working perfectly. Every Saturday the Garbage collection, and Scrubbing jobs are going through, and changing something on the volume that causes veeam to detect 600-800gb in changes. We are using veeam b&r version 7.

Anyone else have this issue?

James, I would not call this behavior an "issue". You have to be ready for large increments in case of in-guest deduplication enabled, since it seriously affects the number of changed blocks, while Veeam B&R works on the virtual disk level and has to copy all those changed blocks.

Is there anything i can do so i dont have this "side effect" besides just not using Dedup on this server? Not use the scrub jobs, or garbage collection?

Its deduplication itself that results in huge amount of changes, so I don't think there's a way to avoid it.
