SFR to different VM

Post by pirx »

Hi,

we are evaluating Veeam at the moment and I'm wondering how I can restore a file to a different VM. Is this only possible with a network share? I'd expect a dialogue where I can chose the VM where the file should be restored (similar to restores with Commvault for example).

Hi,

You can do a restore with the Veeam Explorer to an UNC path (like \\server\share), to a connected network drive or to a local drive of the backup server where you started the restore process. For sure you can also restore this file to the VM where it was backed up (keep / overwrite).

So at least with the UNC path you are able to restore this file to another VM.

During Windows FLR processes backup server mounts the volumes to paths like C:\VeeamFLR\<servername>\Volume0. So, the alternative might to initiate Windows FLR process, go to the directory, locate necessary file and copy/paste it to whatever machine you want to. Thanks.
