shared proxy

Post by balma01 »

Is it possiblo to share a proxy between 2 VBR server?
If yes, what happens when two jobs scheduled by 2 different VBR server try to use the same proxy at the same time?
Thanks in advance

Hi Balma01,

Yes, you can share a proxy server between two VBR servers, however note that it's far from best idea(can give you 3 reasons NOT to do that straight away):
- 2 VBR servers are unaware of each other jobs - they will fight for it(who starts processing first - wins proxy free CPU cores allocation)
- they are unaware of concurrent VBR load requests, which might lead to cases where 10 less important servers are backed up, where 3 most critical production servers are waiting for proxy to become free. They will fight for CPU and RAM on said Proxy machine.
- in cases with Job Reties, 1 failed VM from VBR Server A Job might lead to uncompleted\delayed backup for VBR Server B

TLDR: its best to have dedicated proxy servers. It gives control and peace of mind.

Hope that helps!
