SharePoint 2007 Backups

Post by mfoley »

Infrastructure:

2 sharepoint web servers - VMs

1 sharepoint SQL server- physical box

A little history:
I currently use Backup Exec 2010 R3 and am able to point to the two sharepoint web servers and able to backup the farm with no problems and perform GRT restores but from what I am told even if I backup the two web servers I still wont be able to get any files, etc because Veeam cant talk to the Physical sql box.

1. Is this true? if so, how does backup exec able to do this and not Veeam and I am backing up the same 2 web servers?

All SharePoint contents sits in SQL database. However, unlike BackupExec, Veeam B&R does not support physical server backup. And if there is no backup, there is nothing to restore from. Besides, Veeam B&R only support SharePoint 2010 or later for application-item recovery. Thanks!
