Should we take Veeam backup of the VEEAMBACKUP SQL database

Post by mortenknudsen »

I'm wondering what is Veeam' officiel best practice on taking backup of the 4 SQL databases under the VEEAMSQL2012-instance (VEEAMBACKUP, MSDB, MASTER, MODEL).

Should they be backed up by Veeam ?

How can I recover the Veeam configuration, if I don't have a backup of those databases and the whole machine is lost ?

No, this is not required. Instead, you should be using Veeam's native configuration backup functionality. This will enable you to recover the Veeam configuration if you don't have a backup of those databases and the whole backup server machine is lost. It is also a much faster and more reliable way to recover Veeam configuration, because the configuration restore process syncs the restored configuration with the actual backup and replica state on disk.
