Slow backup from another host that uses shared SAS storage

Post by matarvai »

We have two HP DL360Gen8 servers attached to HP P2000 G3 SAS shared storage. When we have our Veeam VM on host1 VM's that are running on host1 are backing up fast, but VM's that are running on host2 are really slow. When we move Veeam VM to host2 those VM's that are running on host2 will backup fast.

Is there any way to get Veeam VM to backup virtual machines directly from shared SAS storage. It seems that always another host is backed up via LAN and it is slow

Hello Marko,
Could you please check what transport mode is used by the proxy server to backup VMs on both hosts? This information is available in the job session log, if you select the particular VM to the left and look for the corresponding transport mode tag next to the proxy server name ([san], [hotadd], [nbd]). Probably VBR cannot utilize hotadd to backup VMs on the other host for some reason - in this case, please, check the following KB article: Appliance Mode requirements/checks
Thank you.
