Hi all vmware community members,
My name is drian. it may be too long, but I hope you guys could understand my situation.
I have a ESXI 5.5 server, there have two vm in this host.
Host vlan address = 10.10.10.50
VM1 config
storage = primary hard disk 128GB & secondary hard disk 500 GB
RAM = 8192 MB
CPUS = 2
VM2 config
Storage = Primary hard disk 112 & secondary hard disk 300GB
RAM = 8192 MB
CPUS = 2
As i am new in vmware, i need a simply way to backup my VM. Finally i found a software called VEEAM, it is very user friendly and easy to use.
I am using the free version of VEEAM 8.0 now.
I deploy a Windows VM which installed VEEAM then the VM is connecting to my host by the host vlan ip address (10.10.10.50).
Also, The Windows VM is connecting a 2TB usb external hard drive (usb 2.0), so the backup destination would be store here.
Today, this is my first time to use the software to backup my VM1.
The performance seems very slow, i spend around 5 hours to back up and the status just 41% only. It would be not feasible if i have to spend a day to backup two VM.
Question:
Is it the normal backup speed for large storage VM?
Am i missed any configuration or wrong step to backup VM?
Is there anything i can do to improve the speed performance?
Drian

Re: Slow backup (maybe it is normal) using veeam version 8.0
Hello Drian, welcome to Veeam Community Forums! May I ask you for the backup job bottleneck stats that are available if you right-click the job and select Statistics on the shortcut menu? I suspect your target to be the bottleneck, but let's double-check that. Thanks!

Hi drian,
I bet it's your usb external hard drive (usb 2.0). Try to use your VBR server local storage as a repo and see if anything changes.
Thanks!
