Slow snapshot removal on Nimble

Post by depps »

Hi there,

We have some Nimble CS300's that have SQL VM's on them. They're not too busy and well within the performance limits of the array. For some reason however removing a snapshop for SQL can take up to 6 minutes. I would have this that these arrays would have performed much quicker than that.

Bottleneck says source however source NIC and IOPS arent ever being pushed.

We have Physical Veeam servers with dual quad core CPUS and backup using direct SAN.

Everything seems setup correctly and Nimble have validated the configuration.

Does anyone else here have similar issues with snapshot removal and Nimbles?

Hi Daniel,
if the issue is the snapshot removal of the VM there's nothing related to Veeam, all happens locally in the Nimble array, driven by vCenter (if you are using VMware).
Have you tried to replicate the issue by creating a VM snapshot from vCenter, keeping it open for the exact duration of a backup, and then trying to remove it? If it takes the same time, then it's definitely the (usual) problem with VMware commit, and you will find many threads about this around in these forums.
