Slow systetic full on remote repository

Post by Ejdesgaard »

Hey,
I have the following setup:
veeam B&R-6.5 server --> 100Mbps link --> repository server(2*6core with 18HDD's in raid)

I have a job with 19 VM's (3.3TB data) that is set up to take incremental backup monday to friday and syntetic full on saturday.
The incremental backup run takes about 6 hours, which is okay, but the problem is that the syntetic full on saturday takes around :!:60hours:!: and in this period both the server, network link and destination repository seems to be >95% idle...

How can it be that it takes so long yet everything seems to be idle?

Regards

Repository server is mapped inside Veeam as a CIFS share or as a proper windows/linux server? If is the first, is expected since all calculation of syntethic are done by veeam server, so data has to go up and down that slow link. Adding the repository server as a windows/linux server will force Veeam to install its agent on it, so calculation will run locally.

The repository server is a windows server 2008R2 with local HDD's.
Veeam B&R-6.5 installed an agent on the server when I ran the "add repository" wizard from the onsite veeam server (which is where the veeam proxy is located)

Hmm..your setup looks good to me. The reason for this behavior might be tracked down by reviewing your job log files.

Btw, what does bottleneck statistics show for incremental and synthetic job passes?

Is there a tool available for analysing the logs?
