Hi,
Support said best practice is to keep 10 to 15% free on every volume for veeam backup related function.
Why is that ?
Is it for VSS quiescing ? I don't understand how it would be related to VSS as space required is much less than 10%
I found a rule that says ( however not sure of this )
"For volumes less than 500 megabytes, the minimum is 50 megabytes of free space. For volumes more than 500 megabytes, the minimum is 320 megabytes of free space. It is recommended that least 1 gigabyte of free disk space on each volume if the volume size is more than 1 gigabyte."
Also In prod server win2012 , I see on certain volumes, keeping 2 VSS copies it takes only 325 MB out of 500 GB.
thanks
francois

Re: space requirement for VSS and replication/backup jobs
Hi Francois,
You are right, due the low space on the volume, VSS snapshot could not be taken and backup is running without VSS. So yes, we warn our users to have more than 10% free on volumes, if VSS is used.
Thanks!
