Spaces in MS SQL database names

Post by Eugene777 »

Hi,

Have DB in MS SQL 2014 used by third party application that have spaces in the name. Veeam gives errors VSS writer not found. I cannot change the DB name, is there any way to workaround this problem?

Thanks.

Sorry,
Case #04423475.
Error I'm getting is: SQL VSS Writer is missing: databases will be backed up in crash-consistent state and transaction log processing will be skipped

Heya Eugene,

I've seen this before, and if your DB really has a trailing space, it must be changed. This is a Microsoft limitation, not a Veeam one:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/hel ... ion-may-fa
When a database name contains leading or trailing spaces or non-printable characters, this document may not be created successfully. As a result, VSS based applications will not be able to backup these databases or any volumes that contains these databases.
Sorry but you need to correct your database name to accommodate this Microsoft limitation.
