Hi there,
Is there any way to speed up a Highly Duplicated VM Backup to offsite Backup Copy?
It is taking forever to copy the VM backup to offsite.
Why the duplicated data won't be recognized locally, instead of transmitting the whole VM data to offsite gateway server to do the job?
Here is some statistic from last night backup:
Total size 150.0 GB Backup size 7.6 GB
Data read 55.2 GB Dedupe 6.4x
Transferred 54.0 GB Compression 1.1x
Now the corresponded backup copy job needs to read and send 55.2 GB offsite.
Why is it not doing the 7.6 GB instead?
Thank you
Ryan

Re: Speed up Highly Duplicated VM Backup to offsite Backup C
Ryan, just to clarify, are you talking about backing up VMs that contain large amount of similar data that should be well deduplicated between them?

Re: Speed up Highly Duplicated VM Backup to offsite Backup C
Hi foggy,
Sorry, it was a typo.
I was wondering why the backup copy job needs to read the same mount of data that the backup job read?
why not only read the backup data which is much smaller.
In any case, Is there any way to speed up a Highly Duplicated VM Backup to offsite Backup Copy?
Thank you
Ryan

Backup copy job reads only changes required to build corresponding restore points from the source backup files.
