SQL / Exchange Restore with B&R

Post by CustomInterconnect »

I have inherited a Veeam B&R installation with application aware backups enabled. I have tried to restore SQL databases and Exchange items (mailboxes, mail items etc) but in all instances - when I get to the very end of the wizard it says I need the Enterprise edition. Veeam support tell me that all versions include the ability to restore AD and Exchange but SQL Backup restoration is only possible to SQL on the backup server in the non-Enterprise edition - but even that doesn't work. All I can do is recover whole VM's and guest files. According to all the literature it should be possible without the Enterprise edition. It's very annoying that the Wizard only says it won't do it after lulling you in to a false sense of security that it seems to be going well; why doesn't it tell you at the beginning or is there some hidden branch to the wizard that lets you restore without the Enterprise edition?

It's true that restores back to the application server requires Enterprise Edition. With Standard Edition, you should only be able to export the restore results into a file. We will look to moving the warning sooner in the wizard cc: @Egor Yakovlev. Although we will not be selling any edition other than Enterprise Plus starting next month anyway. Thanks!
