SQL Server 2008 VSS problem
Hello,
This is my first post on this forum, hope you can help me
I have recently purchased your product Veeam Backup & Replication 4.1.
My enviroment has 3 servers, 2 of them in a cluster using Vmware vSphere 4 U1 Advanced.
On my enviromment I amd running 17 Vms (DC,Exchange 2007, SQL Server 2008, ISA Server 2006,...).
I installed your product on a VM inside my cluster and I am using Virtual Appliance mode to make the backups. Everything so far so good.
My problem came when I tried to backup my SQL Server 2008 using your VSS. I cannot backup this server. It always gives me VSSFreezer: Failed to freeze guest, wait timeout error. It does not say how many miliseconds is the timeout.
I have read many threads on your forums regarding this and I´ve tried so far everything: Disabled Vmware VSS Quiescence, create registry DWORD VSSPreparationTimeout,...
On the Vm, it seems that VSS is working fine because it doesn´t show me any errors on application / system events, vss services (veeam vss, microsoft vss,...) start correctly and it shows me that backups of my databases where made OK.
I was thinking that maybe the problem is regarding my vCenter being part of the cluster and using the SQL Server as its DB. Maybe when I launch the SQL backup, vCenter losts connection to SQL, Veeam goes mad not finding vCenter server and backup fails.
Any ideas? Could you help me please?
Thank you so much!
Bye

Hi, can you copy the exact error that you get in the Session log? It does not seem like you have Veeam VSS enabled according to the error you have posted above.

Hi,
You mean this?
0 of 0 files processed
Total VM size: 365,00 GB
Processed size: 0,00 KB
Processing rate: 0 KB/s
Backup mode: HOTADD without changed block tracking
Start time: 08/04/2010 12:15:32
End time: 08/04/2010 12:22:26
Duration: 0:06:53
Creating snapshot
VSSFreezer: Failed to freeze guest, wait timeout
Thats the only thing I find. I tried different backup modes so dont worry if here you dont see virtual appliance mode.
Thank you so much!

Re: SQL Server 2008 VSS problem
Looks like VMware VSS issue from the error. You should try to enable and use Veeam VSS (see Backup Consistency step of the job wizard). Also, you may want to rollback all changes you have made (registry keys etc.) as they would not affect VMware VSS anyway, but may cause unexpected results in future.

Hi Gostev,
As I said, I only use Veeam VSS. I disabled vmware vss quiescence. I will try again, but i dont expect this to work.
Thank you!

OK, if it does not work, please open a case with our support for further troubleshooting (they will need full debug logs from Help | Support information).

Hi!
Not working
How can I open a case? Sending a mail to support@veeam.com with the log files will be okay?
Bye and Thank you very much!
