SQL Server Transaction Log Backup many working instances

Post by FSW_Freital »

Hi together,

we have configured a VMware Backup job with AA for one machine where a MSSQL DB instance is running. Our configuration is the following:
- Backup logs periodically every 15 mins
- Until the corresponding image-level backup is deleted

The job is doing fine but we see more than one instances of this job under running Jobs although these job have reports with status success and the time intervals are fine. The parent job is also finished. Is it normal, that these instances will be shown so long under status running?

Thanks in advance and kind regards,
Frank from FTL

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

All jobs that have "backup logs periodically every..." are always shown in "running state".

My guess is that F5 solves the "more than one instance running" issue. If not, please double check with support and post the case number.

Best regards,
Hannes

[MERGED] Multiple display of Transaction Log Jobs

Post by dspringer »

Last week I switched to the new build 11.0.1.1261 P20220302 (before: 11.0.0.837) and I just noticed something strange:
Among other things, 2 backup jobs are running on the backup server, in which SQL servers are included. Veeam has activated transaction log handling for these jobs, so that they appear permanently as "*** SQL Server Transaction Log Backup". Both with timestamp 22.03.2022

We also have two other servers, where only the console is installed in addition to the actual backup server - also on the latest build. Now, however, I see those mentioned 2 permanently active jobs on these two servers. But I can see both of them 3 times (22.03. / 16.03. / 18.03.) . Those "dead" jobs do not disappear when I stop the actual backup job from which the transaction log backup originates.

Hello,
that sounds similar like the observations above.

Can you please investigate with support and post the case number here for reference?

Thanks,
Hannes

Hi Hannes,

sometimes the solution is too easy to believe ;)
A refresh button in the menu bar would be great.

Thank u very much!
