SSD for vPower NFS write cache and WAN Accelerator cache
Looking for some input or real world experiance with the benefits of using and SSD for both vPower NFS write cache and WAN Accelerator cache.
Use case for me would be:
- vPower NFS write cache of 5-7 VM's, moderate size and I/O (SMB Exchange or SQL boxes). Should a host go plan would be to use instant recovery (repository would be mirrored SATA drives on dedicated physical Veeam repository).
- WAN Accelerator cache would be for a 20 meg upload connection, guessing most any storage could keep up with this but not sure.
Overall just wondering is adding a SSD drive to a physical Veeam server which would be doing vPower and WAN Accelerator would be worth the investment for a small Veeam deployment.
Thanks!

My experience is that a 20Mbit connection is almost impossible to saturate with wan accelerator cache on spindles. So if your copy copy-job or replica-job is not running fast enough to meet your backupwindow some SSD-storage could help you out.

I would add that due to some optimizations in v8, SSD does not provide such a noticeable global cache performance improvement, as it did in v7.
Here's also a good existing discussion, might be useful.

I see many has answered you about the use of SSD for wan accelerator. Part of the question was also about vPower NFS performances, well here I can tell you it does a lot of difference actually. Just as an example, I did some tests accelerating vPower NFS using PernixData, quite impressive:

Interesting! Do you have any updated I/O vs. bandwidth sizing guide lines for v8?foggy wrote:I would add that due to some optimizations in v8, SSD does not provide such a noticeable global cache performance improvement, as it did in v7.

Not yet Rasmus, but we are working exactly to produce a more detailed document. In order to collect proper informations tests will be run for some time, so please have patience

Any word on if the new documentation is getting closer to fruition?dellock6 wrote:Not yet Rasmus, but we are working exactly to produce a more detailed document. In order to collect proper informations tests will be run for some time, so please have patience

Not sure if Preben has prepared some content we can share... With the new activities for the next major versions some things have good behind in the schedule, sorry.
