Steps to integrate Veeam with HP 3PAR StoreServ

Post by CraigV »

Hi All,

Does anybody have the steps or a document that will help me set up Veeam backups of snapshots taken on an HP StoreServ 7200 (3PAR)?
The environment will be VMware 5.1 on which the VMs are running in a demo environment.

Thanks!

Craig

Hi Craig,

HP 3PAR support is coming in Veeam B&R v7, which will be available later this year. Currently, we support HP LeftHand (P4000) and HP StoreVirtual (VSA) only.

Thanks!

By the way, we are not simply adding new platform support (3PAR) in v7, but also enhancing existing functionality around integration with HP storage... you will like what you will see!

Is there current snapshot support for the rest of the StoreVirtual line? We're looking closely at the StoreVirtual 4330 model, and I suspect it should integrate with Veeam's snapshot explorer since the StoreVirtual 4330 looks to use the same management console as the P4300/4500 and StoreVirtual VSA. Can you confirm that assumption?

Any chance snapshot integration is coming to the HP P2000 line? :)

We love the P2000 for its performance and low cost - but unfortunately it isn't supported by Veeam's snapshot manager.
We love the P4300 for its scalability and integration with Veeam snapshot explorer - but it has a pretty steep entry cost.
The new StoreVirtual line looks like it fills in the gap nicely - especially if it is supported by snapshot explorer.

Thanks for any info,
Andy

HP StoreVirtual is simply the new name for HP LeftHand (P4000 Series), so yes, it is supported.
We are looking at HP MSA (P2000 Series) as one of the potential future integration targets.

Will Veeam continue to deliver HP Exclusive integration ? or will other major Storage-vendors receive the same attention ?

We are definitely looking at adding support for other storage vendors in future releases. We prioritize storage vendors for deep integration primarily based on their market share, but there are additional considerations on top of that. Basically, we cannot do this completely by ourselves - we need commitment and resources from the storage vendor side too...

So, excluding EMC that is 1st on market share BUT it also sells Avamar and Networker, the next logical support would be NetApp, or Dell :)

Luca, remember that HP also sells Data Protector, so no difference really. Also, while EMC may be 1st on market share overall, but we only sell to certain market segments. And the poll we've run on these forums last summer (you should still remember) actually showed HP being #1 in "market share" among our existing customer base.

However, as I already explained somewhere else before, the main reason for choosing HP as the first partner was well established relationship with their storage group, and HP's willingness to collaborate with us closely on all levels (from technical to marketing). It is hard to imagine the better storage partner than HP has been for us all these years. For example, think them putting us on the front of their own booth at SNW USA last year... incredible.

Generally speaking, we are open to collaboration with all storage market leaders who is ready to be at least half as good partner as HP has been for us.
