'Subtracting' a VIB from a VBK...
Hello,
I've searched the forums and I don't think this has been asked before... Perhaps because it is a stupid question!
I have a full VBK backup and also the last VIB incremental file that preceded it. Like this:
* MyServer.VBM
* Friday.VIB
* Thursday.VIB
* Wednesday.VBK
* Tuesday.VIB
* (...and nothing earlier)
Is there any way to 'subtract' my Tuesday VIB from the Wednesday VBK in order to create a functional restore point on the Tuesday? (As if I could make a synthetic VRB file, I suppose...)
Thanks!
Matt

Hi Matt, this is not possible. Not sure how you came up with that standalone VIB, but without the corresponding part of the chain it is useless and can be deleted. Thanks!

In the off chance that I understood your question right, if you want to create a stand-alone full backup from a VIB point, you could use the export functionality:

But he doesn't have the related VBK for this VIB...

Thanks for the quick replies! ...I thought that might be the case!
(The orphaned VIB is a by-product of the way I do tape backups... It is a long story.)
