SureBackup - Copy whole VM from backup storage, then boot?

Post by SBarrett847 »

For SureBackup and Labs - is there a way to Copy the whole VM from slow backup storage, to faster storage and then boot?

The reason I ask that when I'm using Surebackup for Lab scenarios it is painfully slow due to Random access to my dedup backup device. If I could have the option to copy the VM to SSD first in the Surbackup sequence, the whole process would be much much faster.

Unfortunately, not. But have you thought about using dedupe appliance as a secondary backup destination, not as primary one; should allow you to speed up both backup verification and restoration. Thanks.

It is a secondary repo for some VMs, but not all unfortunately. One for the wish list :)

Thanks for the quick answer.

Got it, for now you can probably script the whole process:

1) Copy backups from dedupe appliance to SSD drive
2) Import backups
3) Create application group
4) Run SureBackup job
5) Remove backups

But I understand that this might be cumbersome.

Thanks.
