SureBackup option to disable Windows firewall
Hi,
the new SureBackup feature to disable the Windows firewall automatically is really great.
But please allow me one question, what's the technic behind?
I've noticed a 15-20min delay per vm to disable the firewall and asked me why..
Thanks & have a nice day!

Re: SureBackup option to disable Windows firewall
Hi Lukas,
Windows Firewall is disabled by mounting the disks of the machine in the Surebackup to the Veeam server and then editing the registry, so my guess is that the Virtual Lab and the backup server may have some slow connection between then for the mounting process or the mounting process is taking awhile for other reasons.
I think it would be best to open a Support Case and allow Veeam Support to review the SureBackup job logs. (Use the 1st radio option, select the Surebackup job for log export)
Please share your case number once created. However, I suspect that the mounting process is simply taking awhile due to the reasons mentioned above, but Support will be able to confirm it with log review and advise.

Re: SureBackup option to disable Windows firewall
Hi David,
thanks for the insides, actually this could really be the issue, as the backup server is on a remote side.
I guess the mount-server role is involved, right? I'm planning to have a repo closer to the SureBackup Lab.
Case opened #07475245
Thanks,
Lukas

Re: SureBackup option to disable Windows firewall
Correct, that would likely be the issue if the Backup Server is remote, but let's allow Support to confirm with a review of the logs just to make sure it's that and nothing else is contributing significantly. I think the repository move may indeed help, but let's allow Support to confirm the behavior and what changes would assist.

Re: SureBackup option to disable Windows firewall
Hi David,
you guessed right it nailed down to poor random read performance over the WAN-link. I'll try to move the data closer to the lab.
Thanks,
Lukas

Re: SureBackup option to disable Windows firewall
Glad that we were on the right track, and that Veeam Support was able to confirm our suspicions.
Thanks for the feedback, and let us know how it goes after the move.
