Surebackup's internet proxy - DNS

Post by alesovodvojce »

Hi,
when using internet proxy in VirtualLab (KB), we can't get DNS translations working.

The affected machine has proxy set via

Code: Select all

Netsh winhttp import proxy source=ie
(source)

How to get DNS translation working in that?
Trying to get Windows updates running, to test the updates without taking risk in production environment.
(the WSUS is not the option here, if you ask. Only internet updates).

[MERGED] Feature Request: DNS for DataLab

Post by Adrian1980 »

Hello Veeam,

more and more users use the DataLab for own tests, like patching and upgrades.
As you know, the DNS thing is a problem, if the VM inside DataLab has to do downloads like from Windows Update or something else.
Access to Internet via Proxy is useless without DNS.

Life would much be easier, if you make it possible to offer the option that the GW-Appliance can act as a Forwaring-DNS for the VMs inside the DataLab.

Greets,
Adrian

In general, the HTTP proxy (that Veeam forwards to) should be performing the DNS lookups - not the client itself. It does however also depend on the client. For example if I use Google Chrome it will let the proxy handle DNS resolution, whereas for example wget seems to attempt DNS resolution locally itself.
