Surebackup with Non-Vmware setup?

Post by dejan.ilic » 1 person likes this post

Veeam Surebackup depends on Vmware vCenter/ESXi setup from what I can see.

Given the current Vmware licensing situation we are considering if we should continue with that platform, but this limitation might be a strong point against such a move.
On the other hand, if we decide Surebackup is not worth the extra cost of Vmware licensing, the Veeam also looses one of its strong (unique) points.

So my question is if extending to att support for Surebackup on other virtualization platforms is being considered by Veeam to be solved in future updates?

Hi Dejan,

SureBackup feature is available on Microsoft Hyper-V as well:

You can find details in User Guide for Microsoft Hyper-V .

Thank you!

True, that might be a way to check the backup data.

But I would like to be able to check against Vmware alternatives (ie proxmox etc..) where any true disaster recovery environment might be spun up if needed.

I just got here after searching with google and reddit to see if I could use ProxMox as a SureBackup virtual lab for the exact reason of Broadcom VMWare getting stupid with licensing. I see there was a post saying it would be considered in the future so here's my thumb's up to that.
